Nel comprensorio del famoso limone verdello, la Via del limone dell’Etna, ci conduce a scoprire luoghi noti e meno noti del territorio jonico etneo, tra natura, storia e cultura enogastronomica. Partiamo dalla collina affacciata sul Golfo di Catania e scopriamo le grotte vulcaniche della Riserva Naturale Integrale “Complesso Immacolatelle e Micio Conti”. Poco distante raggiungiamo la costa e, tra i miti di Ulisse e Polifemo, ci immergiamo nell’incantevole l’Area Marina Protetta delle Isole dei Ciclopi con i famosi Faraglioni di Acitrezza, testimonianze di attività vulcaniche di 500.000 anni fa. Per chi ama romantiche passeggiate tra cultura e natura, ecco Acireale, famosa per l’elegante centro storico barocco e la Riserva Naturale Orientata La Timpa, un costone lavico a strapiombo sul mare ricoperto di una suggestiva vegetazione selvatica. Proseguendo verso Giarre si scorgono i borghi marinari Santa Maria La Scala, Santa Tecla, Stazzo, Pozzillo e Torre Archirafi. Siamo nel cuore della riviera dei limoni, tra aziende agricole, esotici “giardini” con agrumi, avocadi, palme e piante rare, ottocentesche dimore padronali e terrazzamenti che degradano verso il mare. Scorci inusuali e punti panoramici offrono splendide viste sui rigogliosi e profumati agrumeti che si estendono fino al mare e su “A Muntagna” il vulcano Etna che domina maestoso questo tratto di costa. Verso il mare raggiungiamo le bianche spiagge e la Riserva del Fiume di Fiumefreddo. Risalendo la collina merita una visita il suggestivo Castello di Calatabiano per la sua storia e gli splendidi affacci. Concludiamo il nostro itinerario, lungo il quale moltissimi altri luoghi meritano visite e attenzioni, raggiungendo il fiume Alcantara con le sue acque cristalline che modellano i basalti in gole di suggestiva bellezza.
